That sounds great...
You'll have you hands full but you will enjoy every minute of it..
I still hunt with my son and he is 42 years old.
I'm still enjoying every minute of it too..

Never went out specifically for squirl as it's not a tratition in my area. Have shot them and they are tasty. One of my friends just loves the things so once in awhile I'll knock a few down for him.

I haven't squirrel hunted much for the past several years. I take the bow out behind my house every once in a while with flu flu arrows. A lot of fun. Knock on wood, I seldom lose an arrow.
I think I'll go some this year. I just bought a little .17 hmr and am itching to do some head thumping with that little tack driver. Everyone claims that it will take their head clean off.
My oldest daughter is now 6. I think I'll take her some this year and let her drag her Daisy Red Rider along so she can feel like she's hunting too.

I always look forward to our Squirrel Season. I've been hunting Squirrels since the age of 12, when my Granddad or Dad took me hunting. Infact I can remember the VERY FIRST time I went hunting with my Grandparents: Aug. 15th 1956! Too young to use a shotgun or rifle so I just went with them. I shot my first Squirrel, at age 12, with a Pellet Rifle. Over the years, I've taken a great many Squirrels, with various weapons: .22 Rimfires, .22 Hornet, .218 Bee, .25-20 Win. 12, 16, 20, 28, .410 Gauge shotguns of many makes and models. At the present, I got my "Squirrel Rifles" all ready for this upcoming season ;D

*sighs* Oh to be able to call hunting work!
I will be out there with the old single shot Winchester Monday morning. Supposed to be cooler so hopefully they will be out longer.
Matthew.

dec,
By the way, that 17hmr, it WILL take most of a squirrel's head off if you hit it solid. Otherwise you'll just take a huge chunk out. I have one and it does just that when you use the v-max bullets especially! Yikes! DO NOT body shoot it!
Matthew.

It looks like it will be a hot one on Monday and we know the humidity will be terrible too!!! Grab your cooler full of ice before you head out to the woods.. If it's hot the Squirrels will move only in the early morning. There will also be lots of Mosquitoes out there too!!

Even though it's gonna be pretty hot when I get off work today I'll be tramping around the hickories on my land looking for bushytails . The new Daisy 1000S springer is sighted in for 25 yards and should knock them right off the branch . I haven't decided whether to go with a match wadcutter or hollowpoint , but either one will be devastating . If they decide to play hide and seek then I may go to the 20 guage loaded with #7.5s . I was popping holes in a steel fix-a-flat can with the springer just the other day , one of which nearly came out the other side , and the grouping was tight . I'll be carrying a bellows type squirrel call . I may also stake out the puddle on the back five , it's the only reliable water source for several hundred yards in any direction .

I just got back from looking in my woods behind my home and saw two young Squirrels chasing around. I've also noticed they are not cutting on hickory yet. It rained last evening and it is very humid & cloudy outdoors, so I didn't take my .22 along. Lots of Mosquitoes out there too!! ~ Better hunting days ahead for sure! ;D

I sat on the deck and watched and listened to them this morning. They are cutting hickories and eating wild cherries. Of course thier favorite is still my bird feeder and sunflower seeds.
