Tagged my first Indiana deer this evening. A cousin got me permission to hunt a bunch of land on the Wabash outside of Attica, and there is a couple of stands already placed that aren't being used by anyone else (a few guys leased the land a few years ago, but lost their privileges for driving ATVs through a bean field) ;D Anyway, I'm sitting in one of the stands that I like a lot and about 20 minutes before sunset a nice doe walked in and stopped in a small shooting lane for me about 25 yards out. The shot was just slightly quartering towards, entered just behind her shoulder blade and came out in the middle of her thoracic cavity. She gave one good buck, ran about 15 yards, took a few more steps and fell over on her side. Pretty sweet. Now, any recommendations on a place to get her processed in the Lafayette area? I was thinking D &R Meats...

Save your money and do it yourself, it's not hard to do.

Dang it Drew! Give me a call the next time and I'll help you out with the deer and might even be able to do some of the processing for you. I've got a spare frig in the basement that it could have at least been quartered up, cooled down and aged until you or I had time to package it. I'm not archery hunting so usually have the spare room right now. Congrats on the doe though! Spent a couple hours yesterday helping a nephew tracking a buck that he apparently just hit the shoulder blade on and no vitals. He shot it yesterday AM, said it went down but then limped off holding the leg up. Tracked for well over half a mile. He had backed out after a couple hundred yards, we went back late afternoon and found where it had bedded down-not a lot of blood and what was there was pretty thin and watery. It had crossed the creek, then went up another hill onto a hardwood flat. Blood specks were getting few and far between. We were getting close to being two properties over and knew there were other archery hunters in that area so we backed out. Got a feeling we'll be seeing it again during gun season or even after that. Seen quite a few deer over the years that had a busted front leg that was healed in the "jump" position
