Looking at the rules that woody posted its says all hunters are to coordinate their locations within their areas and no one within 1200 feet of each other? Yeah right... 9. Discharge of firearms within 600 feet in the direction of roads separating hunt areas and used only by hunters, hunters vehicles and Hunt Area boundaries is strictly prohibited. Discharge of firearms within 1,200 feet between hunters is strictly prohibited. Therefore hunters within the same Hunt Area MUST coordinate their hunting locations with each hunter prior to each hunt to ensure at least 1,200 ft. separation between hunters. Discharge of firearms within 1,200 feet in the direction of structures is also strictly prohibited. What a joke. How do they expect to throw 116 guys on the property that is new to most of everybody at 5am, and expect all of us to know where to go and not ruin each others hunt. Hope this isn't the case.. Wouldn't it make more sense and be much safer if the areas were dedicated to each individual party?! Even if they were smaller areas..

Does anyone know the break down of seaosn?... when bow ends and gun starts? As I stated earlier, October 8th has been withdrawn because of an open house there.. Not sure if that includes the whole weekend – IE the 9th too. Archery hunts there will be October 9th or 10th through November 11th Gun hunts will be November 12th through November 27th. Muzzleloader hunts will be December 3rd through December 18th

If it is set up like it was towards the end of my time there were multiple groups hunting the same hunt areas. Some of the areas were big enough to handle it. Some were not.
As far as the ruler police, don't expect to have anyone out there measuring your distance it was always that way and for the most part it was agreed that it was a cover your butt rule so if there was an accident the base could fall back on the rule and show that the hunter was not complying with the rules. Not saying they couldn't be more picky now but I'd be suprised.
Good luck sounds like they really want to weed it out before they turn the property over.

Even if they were smaller areas.. get used to it, most of these hunts are run like a bad joke, you either don't go or deal with it, ohh the stories.. key on these hunts is to find an escape route in your area and let the other hunters push deer to you

I got drawn at Newport Nov 5,6 for archery and Dec 3,4 for gun and out of the whole deer hunting season those are the two weekends I can not go. I called the deer hotline yesterday and told them i couldnt go on those dates and if they had a way to give the next guy in line that didnt get drawn my dates. Answer "No". Too bad they dont allow you to draw for certain dates like the park hunts so guys dont draw a date they cant go. h.h.

In fact, I just re-checked the results page and it still says the 8th and 9th.

Not sure who you should contact to find out for sure. I hope you get all weekend.

I'm going as a partner on 11/5-11/6 bow and then again on 11/21-11/22-11/23 gun. Sounds like it could be some fun! I have had some good success in the past at Newport over the years and I hope my partner and I do well again. Good luck to all drawn and going this year! And most important be safe and have fun!

I'm going to back out on my hunt since they're turning this into a free for all this season. Something told inside me told me to stay with Crane but I didn't.

wow, I am now a whole lot less excited about the hunt I have found out that Newport will be hunted HARD!There will be hunts every day from October 8th through December 18th. There will be anywhere from 74 to 116 hunters a day hunting. IF you were drawn for any December hunts those are MUZZLELOADER hunts.

like someone said, finding the escape routes will be the key on these pressured hunts!

I would go if it was late October early November! You can bet a lot of guys are not going to be going based on weekday draws, partner requirements and how heavy the draw was keeping people away. The pre-rut would be exciting there! Be smart on where you pick to hunt and see if you can get one of the ginormous pigs out there!
