The moral of the story is: No one shouldn't have a round chambered in their handgun, when wearing a holster, driving or sitting, in one place, for any length of time.

Can't agree there - Having to take the time to chamber a round in a high stress situation isn't necessarily easy in the first place let alone you will likely be playing catch up to start with. I just saw some footage recently that proved that point. What it does prove is holsters that are reinforced at the top (steel band etc.) or polymer holsters are a good idea (and are easier to reholster anyways; and you need to inspect all your equipment.

I agree with dbd870. Trying to rack a cartridge into the chamber in a dire situation is not good. Every mini split second counts then.
As the article said," This truly brings home the importance of taking care of your equipment and ensuring it’s in proper working order."
Guns do not go off without the trigger being pulled.

The video Dave is talking about is quite graphic. Short story is, it shows a man desperately trying to chamber a round while he is being shot to death.

+....1 True! With a revolver one can have the hammer resting on an EMPTY chamber, only to cock the revolver to have a live round ready, if needed. This is something you can't do with an semi-auto handgun.

I guess that would depend on how old the revolver is wouldn't it? Almost all new revolvers have the hammer blocked until the trigger is pulled. Not so with the older revolvers. Having your hammer resting on a round with an older revolver you are but a accidental slip or drop away from killing yourself or worse, killing someone else. In most of the new "hammerless" designs like a your but a malfunction away from shooting yourself or someone else carrying one chambered. Guns can and do go bang without the trigger being pulled. It may be a 1 in a million chance but theres several hundred million firearms out there so the potential is there several hundred times over at any given time. If you have never had a firearm malfunction you haven't spent much time at the range with older firearms ;D. Moral of the story, always know where your muzzle is pointed!

Ill start carrying with an empty chamber when the police start doing it.
If you are not comfortable enough to carry a loaded gun you might want to think twice about carrying at all.
why even carry a gun?
