Put together a .308 Encore for dadfsr for his birthday/Christmas gift this year. I still need to do load development for it (waiting on bullets), so he was shooting Remington factory ammo today. Other than shooting my Contender a few times over the last several years, I think this is the most he's shot a pistol since he got out of the Marines in 1979! I think he did very well. Couldn't shoot any further than 50 yards due to the snow and snow banks at the range. Pics of him lining up a shot and the first 5 shots he put through it (3 inch target dot):

Good deal! Looks like the shoulder is coming along nicely - at least it's not much of a hindrance based on your group.
BTW - Ya might as well stay put for a while or at least get used to the background I see in the pic. They are calling for 4-10 inches of the white stuff on your home front tomorrow!

Kind of interesting that I was reading in my Outdoor Life on the flight to Midway about regressive and progressive powders . Also had an article about a TC in 6.5 that the guy was pretty satisfied with....hint, hint .

Larry-was actually holding a kid in either arm and giving 'em hugs right before we left so yes the shoulder is doing very well! Thanks!

Looks like Dad still has it!!! I was trying to remember what Tom Selleck said in "Quigley Down Under" towards the end of the movie about not knowing how to use them

That looks like it might let the air out of a deer pretty nicely Dadfsr. Nice choice in caliber too Danf.

Don't know about deer yet but I DO know that it will take a young groundhog at about 250 yards ;D Using factory Remington Corelok loads too. It still had the clover in it's mouth from the hayfield that's it's been chowing down on....

My neighbor had called earlier in the day and wanted to know if the "range was open". He had a Webly and a 45-70 that he was wanting to check his loads on. I said sure because I had not shot the Encore since Dan had shipped it over. He ran some rounds through on the short range with Webly and then we set up a 50 yard, 100 yard and a 200 yard target on the long range. I was very impressed with first shot out of the Encore at 50 yards and only had to do a little adjustment to bring it back down on the 100 yard target. The 200 yard target was still holding nice....and those were all with factory rounds! So I switched over to the handloads that Dan had also sent and found they were following the factory rounds without any adjustment needed. So I already knew the 200 yard range was very good. Unfortunately for the ground piggy the "range" is also the hayfield ;D and he was just another 50 yards + or - past where I had the 200 yard target set up. Never dreamed I'd be taking shots at that range with a pistol and hitting something that accurately

With good support they really can reach out can't they. I'm going to take the 15" 25-06 & 6mmRem barrels plus the 17" 17 Fireball barrel to Ohio this weekend and try some 600yds shots with them. I'm a little concerned with wind drift with the 17FB but it's too tempting not to try.
