After dusting.......Has anyone ever heard of lightly spraying wd-40 on a clean soft cloth and wiping the feathers down with this?

Not a good idea. The oil will never evaporate and the feathers will never look very good. We taxidermists go the extra mile to remove all the oils from the skins and feathers before we mount them. If the oils were left in, they would attract more dust then you could imagine and would never come clean again. Just use a large make-up face brush and gently dust them and you will be amazed at the way they shine back up.If the bird is extremely dirty, there is a way to wash them and any taxidermist worth anything should be able to handle this for you.
