!!!! All I can say is you can blame this all on the television. Nowadays everyone thinks they can hunt because they watch the Outdoor Channel! ...

We hunters need to step up and start self policing our own ranks.
If someone is out of line, they need to hear it from the responsible experienced hard core hunters like all of the guys on here.

Lack of respect for others goes way beyong the hunting community ladies and gentlemen. yes it certainly does! And this statement kind of goes with my story. My rude driver most likely is a rude driver every time he gets behind the wheel but throw an orange cap on him and everyone he was rude to labeled him and his buddies rude hunters.

Hunters need to set the bar higher. Deer firearm hunters seem to contain the worst of the bunch...not many waterfowlers or upland hunters behave as poorly as a few deer hunters who give the rest of us a bad name. Unfortunately, the slob deer hunters are the most visible to the non hunting public.

Consider the fact there are 2 it not 3 times as many gun deer hunters compared to waterfowl or upland hunters makes deer hunters more visable during that first weekend of season. We all know of the slobs, but a majority of gun hunters are ethical and moral in the deer hunting community.

I agree with you on that as well, I just wish there was something to do to keep those slobs from ruining other hunters set ups that have been hunting a moth or better when they decide to slide out there opening morning to a spot they havent set foot on all year !
That and it would be nice to have some way to teach those slobs some ethics, respect, and safety before they buy all their "stuff" the night before at Wally World and then trample out there with a loaded firearm.
But thats my opinion lol ! Good Luck to you this season

the other day i was hunting public ground and i had a rabbit hunter come into the woods i right away made myself known. ask him if he was having any luck he said no. and he proceeded to kick every brush pile within sight of my stand. this was the most disrespectfull thing i have ever had happen to me while hunting.

I also have had my hunts ruined by hunters that just come in and sit where they want to, Even after you have shinned them, they fill as if its there right to hunt there, and it is to a certain point, But have some respect for your fellow hunter. I am sure glad that I now have Private land to hunt, But sure did notice the traffic increase after daylight on sunday, people just driving county roads, And yes I am sure if they saw a Huge Buck that they would fire from the veichle as well. why is it when Gun season comes in they think they can shoot anything that moves and where ever they Dam well please? Its never going to stop... Just have some Idoits in this world, and it shows up every year at this time..

Sunday at MMSF there weren't nearly the amount of hunters, judging from the parked vehicles, as Saturday. I figure next weekend might be even less hunters in the woods. Since I lack private land and my doctor told me to keep my stress level low, I try not to let "other" hunters bother me. Truth be told, I am not always successful. :-)

Another "etiquette" thing that gets deer hunters bad names is something I witnessed sunday...and I really don't know how to get around this one but maybe its something to think about...I was on 37 heading north and was stopped at a light in Martinsville,,,right in front of me was a dang nice buck on one of those racks that mounts on your SUV hitch...with its cavity propped open with a stick to cool...I'm thinking "Nice buck"...then I look to my left and see a woman and her daughter who looked about 10...the little girl had a look of sheer terror on her face...then I was thinking about it thought "Man I would have turned the deer over so at least all somebody saw was a dead deer...not the place where its guts used to be...LOL

Not only is it MUCH easier when they are hanging...rather than fighting holding legs, holding the other down with your knee while trying to reach up inside...it is MUCH easier to keep them CLEAN (not to mention YOURSELF! )before butchering!

Could not agree more. I hunt public property in S. Indiana along with my father, and brother.
Had a group out of pennsylvania approx 10-15 show up this year. One of them walked in on me twice while in my stand on Saturday morning. Had three of them walk in on me Sunday. Then to top it off Sunday they all decided to start a deer drive!!!
Needless to say not the best opening weekend. Ready for late bow season.

Well I got some good news tonight...had a meeting at my church and was talking about my deer hunt over the weekend and one of my buddys there says "Hey why don't you come over and hunt my property"...I was like are you kiddin...and he said no...its not a big place maybe 150 acres but he said it is real thick and he and his wife have seen tons of deer from their back deck...its in Rush County and surrounded by farm land but a nice thick woodlot...he said it has been hunted some in the past but not this year and nobody took a deer off it last year either....he took a guy out during bow season to look it over and they were tooling along on his quad when a big 11 pointer popped out within 30 yards of them...he said it just stood there looking at them and didn't even run when he flipped a corn cob at it...crazy but I am so excited I am meeting him tomorrow after work to get the lay of the land and the boundries
