Not unusual. I've read biological articles that state, in the Spring, pregnant Doe especially, will seek out young rabbits, ground nesting birds and eat them, for protein requirements. Buck have been known to do this also. It was actually a Purdue study - the funny part is that it was a study OF ground nesting birds, & then they just happened to capture the deer behavior! At first they thought that the deer had picked up the birds inadvertently while browsing grasses, but then they actually captured images of deer chasing down several fledglings that had initially escaped the nests!!
