Well i suppose that now everyone will freak out and try to kill the Mt. Lion just like everyone freaks out and wants to kill any Wolf that they see or think they see.... I for one think that this is awesome and it is just what we need , we need these animals to help in the natural balance of things and if u are to scared to goto the woods because you are afraid of the Mt.Lion or Wolf or the Black Bear here now in Indiana then just stay home and make my time in the woods that much more productive !!! All too easy to say when you aren't the one at risk. I live in a wooded setting directly next door to an undeveloped woodlot full of deer. I hunt in my back yard, so I'm just as much a target as the deer. According to DNR they're considered protected unless they pose a hazard, if they're within range to chase me down and eat me I'm going to consider them a hazard.

Mt. Lions have a 42" tall "kill instinct" that sets them off... If you're less than 42" tall, for whatever reason, that could set them off... Almost all the jogger deaths and such that you hear about out west, are when the jogger has stopped to tie their shoe, and is bent down... So don't bend down to pick up a stick to fight it off... Stay standing, make loud noises, wave your weak arm, while pulling the pistol you should be carrying anyway, with your strong arm... If it pays you any mind or keeps walking toward you after you start making noise... well... I'm not one of those hunters who can't shoot, so they empty a gun at an animal... but this is a little different, and would warrant it...

You do know that with one Mountain Lion and the slight chance of others, that your time in the woods is not going to be more productive if I stay home? That cat will kill more deer in a year than I have ever killed in a couple of years.

Lions and wolfies and bears, oh my!!!!! I think that if you stay on the yellow brick road that you will be OK. If you opt to leave the yellow bricks, then simply, as the boy scouts say: Be prepared.
Not real sure what "the natural balance" might be, but I'll try my best to not upset it.

Great! Thats real close to where I turkey hunt, no wonder it was a rough year...lol I wonder what a Remington Nitro 3.5 #5 would do to that thing! If anyone knows the exact location where these pics were taken let me know.

I wouldn't worry to much about it, they have been around for years and I don't think this is the only big cat in the state. Either the numbers are growing or something is going on, the DNR wouldn't establish a whole "commision" or whatever to study or investigate one cat.
