I bought a DIY Camo Dip Kit from a guy on Archery Talk. I really didn't want to pay $120 for something that might turn out like crap. A guy on AT was selling his kit that had 8" of film missing. He wanted $80 so I thought "what the heck". it took several days but I finally got it done. I'm a big Notre Dame fan so I added a little Irish touch to the receiver. The base coat is tan and I thought I'd try a base coat of white on my Thermacell.

Wow. That looks awesome from the pics. In your best guess, how does it look like it will handle the wear, tear, and abuse?

It's basically been painted. The kit comes with a satin clear. I put 3 coats on so I'm pretty sure it will hold up well.

......... What was the toughest part.......did you take the scope off and do it seperate The toughest part was the rings. They have a bunch of angles and curves. I took the whole gun apart and did the pieces separately. The forearm, barrel, receiver, butt, rings & scope were all done seperatly. Most where double dipped. I would have wasted a lot film if I tried to dip a piece just once. I tapped one side and dipped the other. Then I would clear coat the dipped side. After it dried I would repeat the process on the other. Hopefully all that made sense. There is a great thread on Archery talk that really helped me out.

How long it take you to finish the job? Whatever it was, it looks like it was worth the time you put into it. Very impressive.

How long it take you to finish the job? Whatever it was, it looks like it was worth the time you put into it. Very impressive. It took 4 or 5 days. By the time I primed & let dry, base coat & let dry, taped half the parts off and dipped and let dry, clear coat 3 times and let dry. Then dipped the other side and clear coat.....most of the time was letting it dry.
