Any weapon is legal because: Coyote is considered vermin and the State of Indiana would like to control the population. Any critter that can push out game species needs managed and controlled, predators like the coyote are smart critters and more difficult to get within a shotguns range and a muzzleloader would not be considered adequate for follow up shots. This is an official interpatation? Where do I find it? Not officail as all, but the typical example is snow geese and the liberal rules on taking them, mostly common sense to me.

Since when has common sense been utilized by any bureaucratic organization? Our DNR, like all other government entities, is all about the politics.

You can hunt anything you want to in Indiana with a high powered rifle except turkeys and migratory birds. Grab the .30-06 and head to the quail fields if you want. My guess for the reason they are not legal has to do fear of something being too dangerous without any real reasoning behind it.

"Grab the .30-06 and head to the quail fields if you want. " Really? Said with sarcasm but not illegal. From the hunting guide "There are no equipment or ammunition restrictions for quail hunting."

You can legally use a HPR in Indiana to take Whitetail deer with a depredation permit.

Makes perfect sense if you are trying to kill deer who are destroying crops, same with wild boar. Certain animals are considered nuisance animals and folks are allowed to use what ever weapon they desire for results.
