Alot of deer hunters see baiting as "immoral", "cheating", or just being "lazy" etc....
But yet these same folks don't see a problem using a deer cam to get a general idea of when, how many, and what size the deer are in that EXACT location. Heck some cameras have the ability to send you the pic the instant that its taken, directly to your cell phone, or to your laptop. If this isn't one of the biggest forms of cheating when it comes to hunting, i must not be seing the big picture.
I guess i don't see much of a difference between the two.

I've never been bitten by the trail cam bug, yet...and I'm quite happy about it! A lot of guys really get into them. Different strokes I guess. If it's legal, hunt how you want.

I don't use trail cameras myself, but I do see them as a scouting tool, not an immoral way to kill deer. I think that they scare the deer to some degree. I do think that the ones that send the pictures to your phone are a little to much. If you put enough of them on your property, you could pretty much know exactly where any deer is at and where it is headed. That might be using electronics to take a deer.

"immoral", "cheating", or just being "lazy"
To me, ethics are personal.
If it is legal I do not care what others use to get their deer. That is their chioice and I make my own choices in what legal products and methods I use.

For the purpose of entry into the Boone and Crockett Club’s® records, North American big game harvested by the use of the following methods or under the following conditions are ineligible: I. Spotting or herding game from the air, followed by landing in its vicinity for the purpose of pursuit and shooting; II. Herding or chasing with the aid of any motorized equipment; III. Use of electronic communication devices to guide hunters to game, artificial lighting, electronic light intensifying devices (night vision optics), sights with built-in electronic range-finding capabilities, thermal imaging equipment, electronic game calls or [glow=red,2,300] cameras/timers/motion tracking devices that transmit images and other information to the hunter[/glow]; IV. Confined by artificial barriers, including escape-proof fenced enclosures; V. Transplanted for the purpose of commercial shooting; VI. By the use of traps or pharmaceuticals; VII. While swimming, helpless in deep snow, or helpless in any other natural or artificial medium; VIII. On another hunter’s license; IX. Not in full compliance with the game laws or regulations of the federal government or of any state, province, territory, or tribal council on reservations or tribal lands; Looks like if you use a camera that transmits pictures you can't enter the deer into B&C.

But I will follow the law as it is written. I don't like the thought of baiting for trophy deer, because that isn't hunting... that's just shooting. I can't stand watching those tards on "Bucks of Tecomate" sitting in a tripod blind basically sniping deer from distance over a plot. That isn't hunting... ANYONE can sit in one of their spots and kill a trophy.

Sounds great and all Woody, Peoples ethics isn't what i was getting at with this thread, the point is...Why is baiting considered cheating while the use of a camera isn't? Just because one is legal and the other isn't? Thats a lame excuse. The use of camera's gives the hunters alot more advantages that a pile of bait or hunting near a feeder. But yet camera's are completely legal.

Just because one is legal and the other isn't? Thats a lame excuse. I don't see it as lame at all. Most, but not all, game regulations are written with several things in mind: 1) Safety - most important 2) Taking unfair adavantage of the game we are pursuing. 3) The health of the wildlife resource I don't see that. Most times all a camera does is show you what SOME of the deer on your property look like. Now I could I see where the ones that sends out an immediate picture of a deer could get a person to get down out of their stand and go get in another stand as the deer is headed that way. I still would not want those cameras outlawed because someone might use them that way. There are too many laws now about what people might do. I can see where a camera like that could be benefical to someone that is a great distance from where they hunt. It could be cheaper on the hunter to get pictures over the net than drive back and forth to check his camera. I do not have a dog in this fight as I really do not care if they legalize baiting or not. Studies have shown that people who bait (in states where it is legal) are no more sucessful than those who do not bait. My only concern on that is the disease aspect. The jury is still out on that one too.

How are baiting and trail cams different?? One is putting deer in one spot so you can kill them. The other just tells you what deer you have running around.

I don tuse trail cams as a scouting tool as far as knowing what the deer are doing and when they are in one spot but I do use them to see what deer are around before the season starts. I dont see it as an apple to apple comparison to baiting tho.

If the goal each year is to kill excess deer & help keep em in check for the benefit of the environment why not bait? ??

Very few trail cameras would exclude someone from the B&C record book.....

Alot of ppl seem to be apparently tryin to legalize the use of bait, but if it was what would be the next step in your attempt to get on top of a trophy deer or meat in your freezer, if that was the case then y dont we just buy them put them in a dog pin and go out and shoot them when ever we wanted ? I dont get the debate here, I personally dont use bait, calls, decoys, or trail cams maybe that might be the reason I have never killed a b&c buck or harvested 100 does for my freezer. I think I hunt, not that ppl that use those things are not hunters I just dont use them, in part I hunt public land and dont see the reason to let others steal my stuff, and I dont want to chuck out money on stuff I have never needed to kill a deer, I dont care what others use or how they use it as long as it fits into the "legal" category ! I dont want the DNR to add more and more laws and regulations to the already changin statutes that are in place now, and to the ppl that think about the way "indians" hunted and they were real hunters then u need to take away gun season, compound bows, inline m/l, crossbows, mechanical broadheads, decoys, bait, blinds, treestands, and a slew of other things for us to be REAL hunters !!! Y are some of us tryin to debate what is right and wrong or the difference in this law and that, how bout we concentrate on the rest of the season and the the time between now and next season scouting, so we might be able to harvest a "trophy" buck or some meat in the freezer and leave out all the BS, I feel like a hunter, I dont use alot of the things ppl apparently think is "cheatin" but I do and will continue to use firearms, inlines, crossbows, compounds and new inovations in slugs, arrows, bolts, powders, sabots, and broadheads. SO if Im not hunting then so be it and the ones that use the "legal" stuff I dont then so be that too lmao ! I really dont care what others do or try to prove my ethics or whether or not Im cheatin. I like the way the laws are I like the way I hunt and I enjoy the sport lets not try to make it harder than it needs to be, heck we already have enough problems with keepin our firearms and animal rights to argue apples to oranges or apple to apples on IMO silly stuff. BUT who am I to judge or be judge ONLY God can judge me !!! And I like it that way lol

The only way that I see baiting or using feeders to congregate deer to one spot is like that aforementioned, high fence show. Yup that one is pure deer porn. IMO.
