We have M/L that use smokeless powder that has the reach of a Centerfire. Inline M/L can reach out to 100 yards plus. So what is the purpose of M/L season? Why not just combine Gun and M/L season? Only driver I see the money for the 2 different type of licenses required.

Well for one it allows the traditional guys who like to hunt with muzzleloader/ flintlocks hunt without the masses of the Orange Army....

My opinion is "The Orange Army" really only applies to opening day.....maybe opening weekend.
After opening weekend of firearms the crowd really falls off.
As for why muzzleloader and general firearms are not combined..........during muzzleloader you only get one shot then you must reload

Orange army still going strong around here, shots going off everywhere. Maybe they should turn the late m/l season into primitive season? I for 1 would like to see firearms either shortened or bumped back 2 weeks like some other states. I do believe the inline does offer an advantage to a point but I know some fellars shoot the traditional m/m pretty well.

I think the muzzleloader season should be traditional only. Sidelocks / no scope.

I think I should have my own season From Oct. 31 to Nov. 15th where no one else in the state can hunt but me , I would be allowed to hunt any weapon and kill 3 bucks
yeah I think that will work, than the orange army would just have to wait lol!

I enjoy shooting a traditional TC Renegade with open sights and percussion cap, that gun can reach out to 150 yards easy with the right powder charge and projectile.

I don't have a problem with multiple seasons. I'd rather we hunt and eat them than have them running in front of cars. But then again, I'm not trophy chasing, I'm just trying to put meet... ANY meet in the freezer, and have had no opportunity to do that yet this season.

comment on the only one shot then u have to reload, well I do that anyway with my slug gun and my muzzleloader lol. My slug gun is a single shot, and so is my inline muzzleloader so it doesnt make any difference to me. I like the 2 seperate seasons and agree that way ppl can use traditional m/l if they choose. Im not a trophy hunter either, I did get the opprunity to harvest a 9 pointer weighin 160 lbs but it was no monster but will definietly help out the freezer

The "break" between the seasons makes no sense to me. Most guys aren't hunting mid-week anyway.
As for reloading a single shot shotgun, that can be accomplished in about 5 seconds if you don't hurry. Makes a huge difference when a wounded deer is walking/running out of sight.

I think the muzzleloader season should be traditional only. Sidelocks / no scope. Yeah that would be an excellent way to control the expanding deer herd. Since there are soo many of those around!

Ah, gotta love the inline/traditional debates. Kinda reminds me of the trad./modern bow equip. debates. Back in the late 70's early 80's, most of the guys I hunted with all had ML, me too. They were TC renegades, hawkens, and CVA mtn. rifles. Most of us hunted with real black, and PRB, although a few used pyrodex. We did it, because back then, if you didn't fill your gun tag in the early season, you could use it for the 2nd season[ML]. We formed a hunting club, had an old farm house, and between all of us, had access to over 10,000 acres to hunt in our county. Ah the good ole days.... Personally, I think the seasons are ok just as they stand. Hunt with what you want. I've killed deer with trad ML, in lines, shotgun/slugs, compounds, and recurves with wood arrows, and now PRCs in a marlin 1894. It don't matter what ya hunt with, as long as ya hunt. Be careful about what you want to use now, because as you age, and priorities change, you may want to use something else. Lord knows that there are people out there that don't want you to hunt with ANYTHING! Just sayin.....

I used to think crossbows were tools of the devil, now that my eyes are starting to fail me, I've changed my tune. It would sure be nice to bowhunt with a good scope!

Muzzle loader still makes sense because it gives the hunter the ability to harvest either a buck or a doe on one license. Which is really great for those of us that are unlucky enough to be hunting in areas where we only see a few deer all of archery and firearms. It also allows those that have bonus antlerless licenses to hunt colder late seasons with a weapon that is much easier to use than standard archery equipment.
Once again the type of muzzle loader should not be limited by more than each persons own ideas of what constitutes fair chase muzzle loader hunting.
A primitive muzzle loader season, percussion cap, no scope, black powder or substitute might be a good idea for the last week of Oct and the first week of Nov. Separate license of course. Only because the DNR could use the extra income.

the thing that i think would make more sense would be to have the m/l season before the shotgun season. its supposed to be a higher degree of difficulty to kill a deer with a m/l so they should be allowed first crack at the deer. that is the same reasoning that archery season opens first. just my opinion

yeah it makes sense. Primitive hunters enjoy this late season without the orange pumpkin heads blasting away at every things that moves..Muzzleloader is a great season, leave it like it is and shorten firearms by a week...
