Ok guys this is my first year hunting in indiana. just moved here 4 years ago. Ok first question.. If I buy a muzzleloader tag can i use it for reg. gun season as well as muzzleloader season? Or do I have to buy both tags? Because i will be using a muzzleloader for gun season that is why im asking. And what better place to ask these questions i think. thanks guys for any replies.

u can use your muzzleloader for gun and take one buck and buy three bonus tags and kill 1-3 does then during muzzleloader u can take either one buck or one doe but if u get a buck before muzzleloader [like gun season] then u can only shoot one doe durin muzzleloader

If you want to hunt bucks you must buy a fire arms tag during fire arm season. You can use the muzzleloader as your firearm. If you don't kill a buck in firearms then you can buy a muzzleloader tag and shoot a buck or doe in muzzleloader season. But you can't shoot a doe with reg firearm tag.
You can buy a bonus antlerless and use that (as long as you are not hunting most of the state property that restricts your use of bonus tags). The bonus tags are good for all weapon types and you don't need any other license then the bonus tags, but you can't shoot an antlered deer with the bonus tag.
Understand? Draw yourself a flow chart might be easier to follow...just kidding. Good luck!

Man that was confusing, try this
Archery season - Archery tag = 1 buck or 1 antlerless deer Extra Archery = 1 antlerless Bonus tag = 1 antlerless deer
Firearms season - Fire arm tag=1 buck* only Bonus tags for antlerless only
Muzzleloader season- muzzleloader tag = 1 buck* or 1 antlerless Bonus tags-antlerless only
*If you get your antlered deer in early archery or firearm you can't shoot another regardless of the season. Until the next calander year.
Bonus antlerless are county based quota. Check on the county you hunt to see how many you are allowed. Also many state fish and wildlife areas don't allow you to use bonus tags.

You don't have to buy fire arm or muzzleloader if you just want a doe. Buy a bonus tag and you can hunt all year assuming you are allowed to use the bonus tags where you hunt.
If you want a buck then you must have a weapon specific tag. And you can only kill one buck a year unless on special hunts like state park, military hunts.

No you can kill a doe with the archery tag and you can kill a doe with the muzzleloader tag too.
Fire arm tag is the only tag you can not kill an antlerless deer...so to kill an antlerless deer in fire arm you must have your bonus tag. Clear as mud, right???

No you can shoot a buck or a doe with your early archery tag and muzzleloader tag. Not both. So there are: 2 early archery tags for a combo of 1 buck and 1 doe or 2 does 1 firearm tag= 1 buck only 1 muzleloader tag = 1 buck or 1 doe Bonus antlerless = county dependant quota There will be 4 regular weapon tags and nearly unlimited bonus tags. If you happen to hunt in an urban zone there are other tags available but I don't know what the regs are for those as I never hunted it and don't plan to. You can only shoot one buck unless in urban zone then it's two. Special hunts don't count against your buck harvest unless you use your regular tag on the refuge/military hunts.

It makes it a little clearer if you think in terms of the season types or license types and bag limits, and forget about what type of equipment you're using...
First, recite THE ONE BUCK RULE: DURING THE ENTIRE SET OF INDIANA DEER HUNTING SEASONS, THALL SHALT TAKE ONLY ONE BUCK, UNLESS THOU HAS BEEN BLESSED TO HUNT IN AN URBAN ZONE OR SPECIAL DRAW HUNT.
There are four REGULAR deer hunting seasons in Indiana (listed below with the type of license/tag you may use in that season):
Early Archery Oct. 1, 2009 - Nov. 29, 2009 - archery tag, extra archery tag, bonus antlerless tag
Firearms Nov. 14, 2009 - Nov. 29, 2009 - firearms tag, bonus antlerless tag
Muzzleloader Dec. 5, 2009 - Dec. 20, 2009 - muzzleloader tag, bonus antlerless tag
Late Archery Dec. 5, 2009 - Jan. 3, 2009 - archery tag, extra archery tag, bonus antlerless tag
Next recite the deer license rule: THOU SHALT PURCHASE A LICENSE FOR EACH DEER YOU TAKE, UNLESS THOU HAST BEEN BLESSED TO BE A LANDOWNER OR LEASEE HUNTING ON YOUR OWN LAND, OR ARE OTHERWISE EXEMPT.
Then recite the Extra Archery Tag and BONUS ANTLERLESS tag Rule: THOU SHALT NOT WASTE THY MONEY ON AN EXTRA ARCHERY TAG BECAUSE A BONUS ANTLERLESS TAG IS GOOD IN ANY SEASON AND WITH ANY EQUIPMENT TO TAKE AN ANTLERLESS DEER. BLESSED IS THE WISE MAN WHO KNOWS HE CAN PURCHASE MULTIPLE BONUS TAGS AS NEEDED.
And finally, THOU SHALT CONSULT THE TABLE ON PAGE 9 OF THE HUNTING AND TRAPPING GUIDE TO GAIN THE SACRED KNOWLEDGE OF DEER BAG LIMITS FOR EACH TYPE OF LICENSE PURCHASED.
For each season, you can use only certain types of equipment:
Early Archery - regular bow (recurve or compound)
Firearms - anything that goes bang and is listed as legal for Indiana: shotgun, pistol, muzzleloaders, PCR rifles
Muzzleloader - anything that goes bang and IS LOADED FROM THE MUZZLE and listed as legal for Indiana: muzzleloading rifles and muzzleloading pistols of certain calibers
Late Archery - regular bows and crossbows...
Now recite the OBR Rule once more, then read each of these rules again... ;D

Only one deer with your archery tag-Buck or doe

If then; only if; both; either...
Tag restructure would be nice for those that have to buy tags! Buck license good for one antlered deer for any weapon. Antlerless tags good for all seasons.
Then define the season dates for the weapons and bag limits of antlerless per season. Seems like such a novel idea...
