Thanks to a spiteful co-worker who took my vacation slot just to show me she could do it and get away with it, my opening week of gun season is off. Iknow...I can still hunt the weekends but dang Im mad! I darn near quit I was soooo stinking mad, but we all know thats out of the question in todays job market. And, the heck about it is...management let her do it, because they are all women!!! Never work in an all female environment...I guarantee youll get the short end everytime!!!!

Did you already have it approved and they took it back or did she get it put in before you did?

It doesn't matter where you go. You CAN'T escape this. Your season is far from over, as everything that happens out or our control, shapes us as how we deal with the things that really matter. If you let them see how it gets to you, then they have really won. Let it slide off your hunting shoulders, and re-think your hunting strategy. If you don't bow hunt, I'd consider taking it up. In my opinion it is by far much more difficult and satifying than gun hunting. The last week of bow season is by far the best week of hunting all year, IMO. And you can only do the best you can to decide where and when to hunt, the rest of it is just luck, being in the right place at the right time. Good luck in your hunting and empolyment endeavors.

Our people have to submit a signed and dated vacation request form to the department manager. The department manager signs it and it then goes to HR. HR signs and a copy goes back to the employee submitted the form. It's all about recordkeeping.
Your situation really sucks and I would be irrate. Sorry about your misfortune. Hope you score big opening weekend!
What's confidential about a vacation form?
I have a yearly calendar posted with all my people and what dates they have off.

Don't let it get you down. You have a job and sounds like you get weekends off. A few guys I know have madatory OT basically eat sleep work and repeat. Sometimes it is just what you have to do. If you really need to hunt those days you can always call in sick. Good luck!

Yeah. Where I work in order to get some new work in the building the union agreed to allow the company force us 10 hours a day and 6 days a week. The other kicker is that they can also force us on Saturdays until we have worked 2 in a row. Thankfully we are kind of ahead of schedule right now.

While I feel bad for you. I too have been there. Question one is and should be does she have more seniority than you do? If so then she gets first pick. Second and easiest to do is take Thanksgiving week, and you get an extra day. Personally I learned to like Thanksgiving week and love the extra day that I saved until I wanted a day off. Worked great on those weeks were Saturday was a scheduled work day.
Third is even if you change jobs you are not going to assured of getting open week of any season because you will be low man on the seniority totem pole. Last man gets whats left. Kind of like the youngest child always ended up getting the neck to the fried chicken.

Just maybe you will go out the first weekend and kill a big one and it won't matter. Don't get worked up yet! Good Luck

Yep, that's the way it goes. Some people will always get away with things that you can't, but as some here have said, they only win when you let their actions change you. Keep your head up.

Yes she does have seniority over me, but...shes pulled crap like this before and they let her get away with it. Two years ago, I put in for the first week of gun season off and it was approved. Thanksgiving fell in that week. I put in for it 3 months in advance...she wanted Thanksgiving off and gave 2 days notice so they called me in to work on my vacation with a made up story that"everyone" needed to be there. Guess who wasnt there? I know....I'll still get to hunt...its just the fact that the witch gets away with such blatant crap that really chaps my butt, on top of the fact that management KNOWS why shes doing it but lets her get away with it anyway and acts like theres no reason for me to have a complaint.

Works on seniority where I am. We're supposed to have the "majority" of our allotted vacation scheduled by the end of January. There is some flexibility after that and we all try to work it out. I have the most seniority so it typically works out for me.
Fortunately, there aren't any true anit-hunters in my area. I have been told that there is one co-worker that drops to her knees to pray that I won't have success. It's typically only good natured ribbing when I'm around her. She LOVES drama and being the center of attention.
Careful on the call-ins. You know they will be watching, And in today's world, many places would be more than happy to hand you all of the free hunting time that you want by handing you a pink slip.
Good luck!

Yep, that sucks. We've all been there in some sort of way. Favorites and good ol' boy/girl clubs are tough to deal with if you at the odd man out. At least if they beat you to the date or you have defined pollicy that is evenly enforced is something you can live with, but when it plays out like you say it sucks cause there ain't a dang thing you can do but quit. And that isn't an option either.

How about muzzleloader season? Deer calm down from onslot of the orange army of opening day of Firearms, second rut. Being a bow hunter I hate opening day of shotgun season but in the late seasons usually have it all to myself. Be thankful of being employed, I have been laid off since Mar.

Sorry for your bad luck. When I first seen the title of the thread I was happy because I thought you had got your big buck and wouldn't need to get out in the cold if you didn't want to during gun season. So sorry this wasn't the case!!
