Looking at the top two posts it doesn't appear that we moved at all. You know what? I don't care. On another board I see a poster, in order to provide "proof that the OBR is working", is mixing data and claiming "I find it interesting to see how we've jumped up to No. 6 in Boone and Crockett entries, and to No. 5 in Pope and Young entries in the period of 2001-2006. This is from a jump of Nos. 12 and Nos. 8 respectfully, all-time." A "jump" The number 5 and 6 is in trophy entires is per square mile, not all time. Grape and watermelons comparison. According to the second post we were number 7 all time in trophies per mile and now we are 5th or 6th. It also appears that it was a slip by Maryland and a falling out of the top ten by New Jersey that moved us up the trophies per square mile category. No "proof" again...

No matter what any one wants you to believe Indiana is and always will be a trophy state. We rank in the top ten in total book bucks, book bucks per square mile, book bucks per buck harvested, and book bucks per population. What is good to know is that we do not need to give up all of our current deer hunting freedoms to make this a great state. The only thing that could possible move us into the top five is cancel all buck hunting for four or five years, which I think some people would like to see for their own gain. We will never be number 1 but top ten is fine with most people.

Trophy hunters that are fortunate enough to get drawn and afford hunts on good ground in Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio will tell you the quality and number of mature bucks will make you never want to hunt good old back yard Indiana, again. There really isn't anything to worry about unless some guys with too much money and not enough sense think they can get lucky here. Now if the season structure changed, then another story.

No, no, as I have said before, there are no trophies here - mostly forks and 6's with an occasional 8-12pt. thrown in. Nothing to see here move along............

Just a curious though but has anyone ever tried to compare the number of entries as to their relation to the total herd size. The herd was considerably smaller in the 70's, 80's, and somewhat smaller in the 90's than it is now. I would think that the larger the herd is that the more record book deer there would be, of course that also depends upon the amount of feed and other factors that would come into play.

Since the debate is what has occurred (trophy wise per B & C and P & Y) in Indiana since the OBR came into effect I took these verified numbers provided in a couple the posts in this thread. Post 27 gave us the Combined Record Book Entries Per State from 1991 – 2000 per haneyvalley.com/records.htm Post #1 gave us the all time B & C and P & Y records. (North American Whitetail magazine) Deducting post #27’s state by state numbers from the Post# 1’s state by state numbers gives us a ranking of percent increase from that states previous total. 1) Iowa increased their total 2,097 trophies (132% increase)2) Illinois increased their total 3,124 trophies (118% increase)3) Wisconsin increased their total 3,398 trophies (112% increase)4) Texas increased their total 737 trophies (100%)5) Michigan increased their total 676 trophies (95% increase)6) Ohio increased their total 1,452 trophies (74%)7) Kentucky increased their total trophies 675 (70%)8) Indiana increased their total trophies 587 (65%) 9) Kansas increased their total trophies 781 (57%)10) Minnesota increased their total trophies 875 (51%)Hmmmm??

Post #1 gave us the all time B & C and P & Y records. (North American Whitetail magazine)
Deducting post #27’s state by state numbers from the Post# 1’s state by state numbers gives us a ranking of percent increase from that states previous total.
1) Iowa increased their total 2,097 trophies (132% increase)
2) Illinois increased their total 3,124 trophies (118% increase)
3) Wisconsin increased their total 3,398 trophies (112% increase)
4) Texas increased their total 737 trophies (100%)
5) Michigan increased their total 676 trophies (95% increase)
6) Ohio increased their total 1,452 trophies (74%)
7) Kentucky increased their total trophies 675 (70%)
8) Indiana increased their total trophies 587 (65%)
9) Kansas increased their total trophies 781 (57%)
10) Minnesota increased their total trophies 875 (51%)
Hmmmm?? Hmmmm?? is right! This really puts it in perspective. All the claims that we are doing so much better and catching up with the "big boy" states is bunk. The NAW data is being trumpeted by some as "proof" that the OBR is working. On one site they are saying - "MORE Proof Indiana'a One Buck Rule IS WORKING!!!" Bull! The guy posting that must not have been aware of where we were before the OBR. In percent gain during the last 5 years we are down near the bottom. The top five all doubled their entries and they are multiple buck limit states. OBR = One BIG farce

................. Indiana is Doing FINE for its size.............. You are right Greg. Do you remember me telling you that some would never just be satisfied with just the OBR? That they would be back pushing for shortening and moving the gun and muzzleloader season? Then on to Earn a Buck and antler restrictions? They are trying to do that aren't they Greg? But don't worry, it wont happen. The OBR is as far as this goes..

Some self imposed antler restrictions would do a world of good in a lot of the State. A ton of young bucks being killed this year. Keep killing the young bucks and that is all you will ever get. Bet those trophy hunters that go to Illinois don't shoot littlins.
