Been passing up 1-1/2 old bucks in hopes of seeing something better. Monday I got down out of ladder stand at 8:30AM because I was bored and I thought I would still hunt. I walked about 15 minutes and got on this logging road where this area was just logged weeks ago. I look up the clearing and seen this buck moving quickly away from me at 200 yards. I said to myself %$#@# because I thought I spooked him. I quickly found a stump and sat overlooking the next ridge where the buck has been. 10 minutes later the buck walks back but is in some thick cut down tree tops and is only 70 yards away exactly downwind from me. For some reason the buck spins around and takes off 100MPH and is gone in a blink. Again I say ^&*#$. So I walk back further up this ridge where I have a better advantage looking at the direction I seen him both times previous. 20 minutes later he comes back for a 3rd time. Now he's 40 yards away and has no idea I am there. Well it didn't take long for the T/C Encore ProHunter ML to react. He went about 250 yards and collapsed. Had a great blood trail as well.
The story goes on though...
My brother has been hunting with me as a Non-res and has one day left to fill his $150.00 tag. We check my deer in and we return quickly to put him back out in the woods. I place him where I shot my mine. He only sat there 30 minutes and shot a smaller 10 pointer 15 yards from where mine was standing. We both came home happy.
My buck was taken in Greene county and has very good mass. main beams are 5" around right out to the 4th circumfernce. This buck was really heavy. A nice mature buck.
