Back when I used to be able to spotlight anytime that I wanted (pre-wife), I would have sworn that I had seen several that would make the book. It was not until I finally put one on the ground that I had been watching that I realized just how big a 170"+ deer looks. He even missed it by a few inches. Since then, I have seen one for sure at Muskatatuck and one "north of town" . My buddy was hunting the second one and said that he was close to 190". He scored mine on the hoof and only missed it by 2", I will take his word for it.

While returning after dark to my camp year before last after an early October bow hunt in Warren county I saw the biggest Deer I have ever seen. The Deer ran along side my vehicle on the drivers side for about 50 yards within 6 or 8 feet of my door. He appeared to have maybe ten points ,but each point was excessively long and reached so very high above his head. the outside points curved inward but was still very wide. Having hunted for over 55 years all over several states,I have never seen such a deer. After the Deer finally ran across the road in my headlights. I stopped and just sat for several moments, actually questioning myself on what I had seen.

I saw a few taken from Vermillion over the past few years proven by the tape not some jacklegs estimate. I can only think of two that I have seen that were at least close but I know that I couldn't field score a deer very well. I can't count points while hunting much less estimate a B&C score. All I can tell is if a rack is basket, spike, fork, or six. The rest it boils down to tall, wide, thick, trash, or clean. A few have been real bruisers one in Madison Co and the other in Vermillion. Both were tall wide and clean with lots of points. Missed the one in Madison Co with my bow from 8 yrds. After that year I switched back to compound and sights...doh!

I assume we're talking about the all time record qualifiers. In that case I have seen three in Martin and one in Dubois. Three of those were prior to 2002 and only one was seen while hunting.

Hard to say...i've seen some real hogs in Parke and Hamilton Co over the years. My best buck (by far) was 164", beginners luck at 16yrs old. Then 14 years later I got a 140"er....In between I've killed lots of dinks that I coulda swore were decent on the hoof. The bigger the deer, the harder it is for me to guess-timate. Looking back 3 bucks come to mind that I imagine went 170's....2 in Hamilton county where no hunting has ever been allowed, and 1 in Marion county in a Geist area subdivision. Seeing bucks like that makes my heart skip a couple beats

Saw one that was a monster way back in 78 or 79 in Vigo, then another monster 3 or 4 years ago down by Fairbanks landing during archery. Once each then gone, never seen either one again.
