For opening gun weekend?
Man I'm confused......our conservation club is gonna be over run with folks, so I got permission to hunt my sister in laws mothers place below Monroe Res in Lawrence County. We hunted down there yesterday morning November 10 and I seen two doe and my son seen one......Lots of deer sign so thats where I'm hunting!
Problem is, I can't get a REASONABLE room anywhere, I did make reservations in Bloomington at a hotel at SR 46 & 446, but it's 109.00 + tax per night, due to the Indiana Purdue Football Game on Saturday.
I'ts an hours drive from our conservation club to the spot in Lawrence....AND I've already brought my little camper home, But I guess I can take it back down and do the drive each morning.
My son is out of school on Friday Nov 16 for some kind of staff development day, I tghink I can also get the day off so if we camp at the club we can leave Thursday evening.
I've got till Tuesday to cancel my room in Bloomington with no penalty.....I think I will!

I'm going to KY; that's when it worked out for me to go, but that's OK so far I've had success on both the properties I hunt there. I'll have to wait for the following week for up here. I had a good doe at about 45 yds. yesterday. I've seen her the last 2 weekends but never had a shot on her; with the Encore that won't be the case!

The Illinois gun opener is this weekend too. Only it will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully I can put one on the ground in Illinois on Friday AM and be back in Indiana for the opening day Saturday... If not I will hunt Illinois this weekend and then back to Indiana Monday.. So many deer and so little time.....

My plans for opening weekend of firearms? If I'm lucky, I'll get out to my woods for an hour or so in the mornings before I spend the rest of both days walking around on drywallers stilts hanging Christmas decorations....

Since I lost my place to Deer Hunt in Kentucky; my only place now is five acres behind my home, I considered safe for hunting Deer with a firearm.

Camby,
You might check into hotels in Bedford as they will be much cheaper than Bloomington. There are a couple of nice ones right on the highway as you get to beford. Also there is some nice, free camping in the HNF.
Next weekend I will hold with tradition and be camping in the HNF with a few buddies but I will still hunt my land in Lawrence county. Opening gun weekend is my favorite time of the year!!

My wife and I will go down to deer camp Friday and bow hunt friday evening. Then, shotgun hunt Saturday and Sunday. Depending on how that goes I am off the rest of the week to hunt local property.

We'll be setting up gun camp in the HNF early (Thursday). The plan was to get a last couple days in with the bows before bringing the kids down Fri. eve for the opener, but I'm on the injured list as far as the bow goes, so I've relegated myself to camp cook and guide. This coming weekend will be all about the kids, who will be doing the bulk of the shooting during their first gun season. We've got deer bouncing off each other out there, so I fully anticipate the kids scoring a couple each. Hopefully, the nice 8 pointer I've been watching all season will find enough ladies close to his bedroom to keep him there long enough for my grandson to harvest him.

I will be hunting M.M.S.F for the first time. Possible places to hunt on private land didn't pan out this year (again). Found some good spots; I'll have to wait and see how many others thing it a good spot. Maybe next year I'll make it down to HNF. From reading the postings it seem to be the place to be.

I'm sitting out Opener. Might walk Kingsbury midweek, but I've got the DSP draw on 26 & 27, so I'm focusing on that.

I'll be hunting a stand Ive saved for the opening of gun season. Its the one on my big food plot and I haven't ever went close to it during bow season. Unless I see a nice buck, I'm not planning on shooting any doe until later this season. Ive got Atterbury the 23, 24 and the deer reduction hunt the 10, 11 of Dec. In my area the doe harvest has taken a toll on the deer herd. I'm not seeing near the deer the last couple years that I normally do, so I'm laying off the doe until late season. h.h.

We bow hunted to club yesterday morning then came back home and grabbed the camper and took it back down there.
We will be leaving Thursday evening for the club, bow hunt at the club Friday Morning, then run over to our other spot Friday afternoon to put our stands in, then back to the club to spend the night.
Saturday our plans are to get in the woods early and stay back there all day, we are gonna pack in a lunch and just hang out, it's 1.75 miles from where we park the truck.....deep deep in the woods, those ATV's sure make it nice!

My plans are to be back in my hot spot watching 3 different ridges somewhere in Lawrence County...Hopefully it won't take too long for a big buck to show up when the shots start going off...

The Comfort Inn is pretty nice and should be a lot less than $109 per night.

I will be doing my best to avoid the large group from Martinsville on the HNF again this year like every year for past 8 years. Unlike recent years I will not be hunting my home county the first three days and instead will be hunting next door in Dubois county. I'm hoping at least one large buck heads for the thick stuff when the shooting starts where I will be waiting. Of course if more than one shows up to let me pick and choose that will be fine also.

I will get up and make the 15 minute drive to my god-parents place and climbed up in one of my stands like every Saturday. It's nice to have your own piece of private land to hunt.
