The wheels of justice turn slowly, but they do turn. They will catch these folks and they will have to pay!

A lot more deer get taken out that way than we sometimes realize. What a shame.
That's my old stomping grounds. Steve and I have been friends for years. He was best man in my wedding. Go get 'em bud.

If I were down in that area, $1,200 would be some pretty good motivation to sit out and watch for lights and listen for shots... that reward would get you a nice new PCR and a bow to boot... and the satisfaction of getting these morons locked up!

The money is a great incentive........down here the food and antlers are as as well. My worry is some the ones that will actually shoot back if these guys are caught in the act.

On Wednesday morning at 9am, Steve will be on our hunting and fishing show heard on WTRE 1330 AM in Greensburg. We meet once a month and discuss hunting and fishing and just about anything outdoors. If you get a chance to listen please do so, we'll be discussing the poaching problem and a lot of issues relating to hunting. Also on this web site there has been discussion about finding dead bucks and the proper and legal channel that has to be taken if you want to keep the rack. Bottom line is if you want the rack you find, it will cost you your buck license for this year. That is the law. Our show is held the first Wed of each month at the same time. It is called Southern Indiana Outdoors, my friend Ben Allen and I host this show. Gary Copeland is my name. You can call the during the show and ask questions to Steve or another of the other guests. We usually have Bill Bevel from Jennings County and Trapper John from Greensburg. Pass the word. Thanks

Not true, a CO can give you a possion permit w/o using your buck tag. Please don't go on the air without getting your facts correct on any subject.
From pg. 5 of the current Hunting and Trapping Guide Guide: "If a deer is found dead from another cause, a conservation officer or person designated by a conservation officer may issue a permit to possess the deer."
The paragraph above states if te deer dies due to a vehicle collision a LEO or DNR property manager may also issue the permit (that's where the "other cause" comes from)
Actually, I think HH pointed this out already.

Oh but listen to this dbd870. If you find a buck that has died from EHD, the CO. WILL NOT give you a permit for that deer. According to the DNR here in the Southern Part of Indiana, the phone number will follow, so you can verify this. the regular permit is good only for 60 days, evidently this is the Catch Phrase. The intent by the finder of these antlers is to keep them, not the meat. Call this number they will tell you also, the DNR once again WILL NOT issue a pocession permit for any EHD Bucks. So I guess I hold you to your phrase, get all the correct facts before you comment on any subject. The number for the Southern Indiana post is 812-837-9536 . According to these officers there has been a lot of mis-interpretation regarding this topic. I'll take it you were just misinformed.

I'm sure there will be some that will be reluctant to do so. Keep in mind that you had to ask for a clarification from the DNR in order to confirm that COs could issue possession permits for found antlers. Other than that reply to your question the DNR continues to suggest that the only way to keep a found rack is to use your buck tag on it.

I would hope to believe that a CO would allow a person to keep the rack by issuing them a permit unless he had some very serious doubts on where the rack came from. That is the "descretion" opart.
Me? My "buck tag" is only going on a buck that I kill. Possesion of that tag is my "opportunity" to hunt. I will not exchange that for a found dead one..
If the CO should say the only way I can keep a found rack is to put my tag on it, I would tell him that the rack now belongs to the state and hand it to him...
