I will have to get a picture of palmation to show you guys...this is from Howard county Indiana. I think we had a hybridation of a white tail and a fallow deer... they had Fallows at an apartment complex here for a while but they kept escaping. I will try to get the pic this week.

I'd say the ole boy just lived thru his second, third or maybe fourth firearm season....big front quarters and neck Tickman, you're WAY off! That deer is obviously on his way out...prob 7-8 years old. It's closer to 7-8 months than 7-8 years. My guess is 1 1/2 years old. LOOK AT THE BODY.

I believe this deer to be a young buck only 1 1/2 years old, and I will not harvest him as I am still after a mature deer. I would not like to see him killed just so we can age him by his teeth, however, I do have a system for aging deer, or any other critter, while they are still alive. First we will have to humanely trap him so that he may be released back in to the wild unharmed. Then you have to calm him down, lift his little tail, and count the rings around his anus! One ring = one year old, two rings = two, and so forth. Now he can be released, maybe a little embarrassed, after a proper age determination has been made! ;D

I have one of wondering around my property. I think mine is on a down slope though, much heavier on the hoof . He has swayed back and a bowed belly. He is also very smart. I have passed him twice. I also have a beautiful 10 pointer with two drops, so I wait for him.

From his body that deer is 2.5 to just 3. He's to well developed thru the shoulders and withers for 1.5 but not big enough for a 3.5 or 4 or above. If your area is like the one I am hunting there are very little acorns on the ground, lousy year for oaks. All the deer I have seen have had small racks this year. I think that the flood in that area caused a very late planting and lack of food that went into antler growth.

I have heard that this type of growth (and saw one killed like this year) that the deer was wounded the year prior on the other side or something. Based on this palmatted buck maybe this is caused from something else

Unless that deer is from the southern part of the country, i'd better all my hunting equipment that deer is no older 1 1/2 old. Long flat nose, narrow forehead, flat back, flat belly, dew claws really close to the hoofs, and a really light brown coat.
