Never heard of such non-sense..Where you checking deer in, downtown Indy.?
I guess in urban areas or suburban areas where not everyone knows everyone, and some will try to tag deer for every member of the family ( ie. party hunting) you can't be too safe.Sounds like the guy checking your deer was an incompetent idiot, much like our politicians downtown..Go figure

No I hunt in Clay County near the Parke County line... The place I am talking about is a check-in station and butcher shop in Staunton (I can't remember the name)... The quit asking for my ID... but that is only because I have been in there so many times over the last 3 years that they know my face...

I noticed many of these places that do check in deer don't have a clue what they're doing. I checked a turkey in at Gander Mountain last spring and I walked the kid through the process telling him how to check one in, he was lost. Then the lady selling license was selling guys turkey license and that's I told her they need a bird stamp too, she says " no you don't " I say yeah ya do. So she calls the Game Warden and yeah I guess you need a bird stamp....She says..then she goes on to say " I;ve been selling turkey tags for a week and I didn't sell one bird stamp, " I didn't think ya needed one"....Imiagine all the hunter who were hunting illegally last spring..

I have had my metal seal handed to me, with instructions to clip it on the deer. The checker didn't even verify sex or look at the wound to see if I might not be truthful about the weapon used. They are not required to actually look at the deer, or affix the metal tag, and as far as the weapon thing, they're not members of a CSI team!

Telecheck can't get here soon enough.

I have given my id to people at the check-in stations just to make it easier to write all my information down. Sometimes it's hard to write in a legible manner when using a tree as a solid surface and it's much easier to give them my id to get all the important information rather than answer 20 questions. It sure was a lot easier when all you had to do was check a few boxes or cut a few notches.

It sure was a lot easier when all you had to do was check a few boxes or cut a few notches. I make my tags on the computer and laminate them and tape a nylon zip tie to the back. I have to do nothing but make a few notches with my knife. I always get compliments on them. Sure beats looking for a pen and piece of paper. I'm always amazed and the checkin station what people will use for a tag.

I had that happen to me in the 06 season.... I bought it at GM too in Terre Haute.... I found out the next spring when I went in to buy a license for the 07 season... I was so glad that I did not get anything that spring when I found out.... because ignorance of the law is not an excuse... but you would think someone working at a store that specializes in hunting and fishing would know what they are talking about..

I have never had to show photo ID either, I used a .357 PCR on two "antlerless" deer, a doe and a large fawn buck and had to explain why I shot a second buck (they finally wrote in fawn and crossed out the buck). They were confused on my first deer when I had an archery license and the only choice the check in from had was for bow... they asked if I was sure they were the same thing. LOL

Neither my son or I were asked for photo ID when we checked in our deer. He just presented his youth license. They did not ask for mine when he checked his in. They took my license and got all the info and handed it back. 2 different check stations. I did not look for PCR on the form. I am waiting for BPCR.

At the Sportsman's Lodge, we get a LOT of people that do not have temporary transportation tags despite a sign on the door, at the register and being asked by whoever checks the deer in. Our local CO checks our book regularly, and they will all be getting tickets for Christmas! Serves them right, the rules are easily available, you just need to read them, or at least ask a someone you trust.

I checked a in deer about 5 years ago at Minnehaha FWA and an older lady was there checking in a deer and had wrote her name in blood on a brown paper towel for her tag! I've never had anyone ask for ID when checking in deer, but my 14 yr old son has killed 3 deer since he was 11 and everytime time we checked one in the person behind the counter trys to keep his youth license. This has been with with 3 different people at 2 different check stations.

I never let them keep mine... even if it is the only tag I have on it I still demand it back... I got confused a few years ago and lost a doe tag because I let them keep the license and it was on there... of course back then I never kept the receipt portion either... now I file the receipt until the start of the next season and keep my license no matter what.

After I was told what a hassle it was to get a new license should you loose the original I always print out a second copy and keep it separate from the one I use.

SleazyE it was Terre Haute where this happened...lol There was probably half the county without bird stamps, turkey hunting...
She tried to sell me one without the stamp and I said "no, i need a stamp" after a few minutes of this back and forth, that's when she finally called Max Winchell ( Vigo co. CO.) and he says yeah you need to have a stamp", she wouldn't take my word on it... ...Finally I got out of there with all my legal paperwork to hunt turkey. She laughed and said " I sold licenses all week around 500 without bird stamps...lol
