same as always!! a quartet of Encore 209x50's - with the Encore and Contender pistols along as well for those really long shots - also have an 11-87 and an 870 as back-up in case we have an unexpected guest or someone has issues with their weapon.

I'll be using either my T/C Triumph or Knight DE. My savage will not hold a pattern. Am using 45g of 5744 and T/C Shockwaves in 250 spire point. My scope is a Nikon Buckmasters.

Tried those same results. What I am going to do now is to completely tear down. Replace bases with others, change rings, same scope, change powder load to 40G of 5744 and retry the Shockwaves. May just try the powder drop first though. For some reason I am getting the feeling that after 4 or 5 shots with a heavier load this gun goes to pot but then again last time I ran a cleaning patch down it after every 3rd shot and still got the same results. At 50 it would print in a 4 inch circle at 50 but when going to 80 it would not even hit the paper: on a for sale size sign.

Beware that it is possible for the front base to ride upon the recoil lug.If this is the case you will need to remove enough material from the base so that you see clearly that it clears. Also, depending upon the style of base used it is also possible for the leading front base screw to bottom out prematurely and not let the base tightened down completely. This is remedied by filing off 1 or 2 threads. You may or may not be aware that it is extremely important in temps above 50 degrees to wait at least 10-15 mins between shots.I am suspecting that your front base is the problem.

Savage, The front base screw may have well been the bugaboo all along, I tore it all down again yesterday afternoon and installed a third set of bases, Weaver style. All have said that they were Savage compatible, but when I took off the one on it yesterday the front screw turned really easily, much to easily. This told me that it some how it had lost its hold, until I bought a foot pounds torque screw driver I usually tightened until they don't turn. Anyway I made up 15 shots at 40G of 5744 and am going back to the range to play. If someone has a chrono and time to kill I would not mind knowing what type of performance that load will give with using the 250 Shockwave. Actually if it prints good I will be happy anyway, because I know that it should be good on a deer sized animal out to at least 80 yds which is maximum for where I hunt.
