I wanna post up some pics of a prototype of a call I am working on. It's very close to what I am looking for but would like any criticisms, comments or suggestions (other than forget it) from more experienced, or newer pot call makers amongst you before I finish it off. It will have slate on one side and bead blasted glass on the other for starters and I want to keep the thickness at 3/4 in.

It looks great to me & I bet it sounds great too!I really can't think of anything to change...I'm trying to make a double sided call too, trying to figure the insides out.

This one has been a blast so far. Maybe the pics will give you some ideas. I have thought of several variations of this call that I want to try when I get done with this one.

I think it looks great! I've messed around with a few pot calls trying an all metal configuration. That's what I do all day is mess with metal, I'm a tool maker. I think you really may have something. I think the inside or bottom of each side looks like it is a good sound board and the outside diameter holes look good and are very interesting. I dig it and don't let anyone say it won't work. Let us know how she sounds.

Riverbottomstalker, yours is the type response I was hoping for. If you want to pursue the idea please do with my blessing. I don't know if anyone is playing around with the integral soundboard but I feel certain this general design would adapt to metalwork much better than wood.
I only work with red cedar and that imposes some limits on what I can do such as size of sound holes and number of attachment points of sound board.

Poor Valley I appreciate it. I like your design and I think your right, it would be an easier or at least a more "metal friendly" design. But hey I'm diggin what youre doin. Keep us posted. This is what we need- more new designs and concepts in custom calls.

I am not sure if you will get much sound out of the sound board since is still connected to the sides. You might have to make the sound board thinner to get vibration out of it with the limited open areas.
Lets us know how it turns out.

if you don`t get the volume you want I would suggest drilling a set of sound holes in the soundboard on a 2 1/4 inch circle on center this will allow more sound from each side to work through to your side sound holes and will help the sounboard itself vibrate better. That is a great idea and looks like it will be an awesome looking call, will look forward to hearing the final report

I think you are onto something here.
Many times a gobbler will hang up on one call only to respond very well to another. With this call all you have to do is flip it over to get a different sound. Good idea.

I sure like the idea of being able to flip the call over to get another sound. Looks Great!

Here is the final prototype. It has good sound and volume but needs field testing on a turkey or two.

Some pics of the final results. The slots are laser cut from a pattern. Much neater.

Last report on this call--I finally found the proper striker for this type call. All along I realized a little something was missing. It didn't have that "Poor Valley" sing to it so I kept looking.
Well it now has the "sing" and plenty of volume to go with it. This job is done.
