Woody: absolutly true the older... the tougher and obviously the more time... the more chance for "distractions" THere's training and tricks that work suprisingly well to keep a pup on track for most of the distractions. I don't expect people to believe this but.... Mind bogglingly (<-is that even a word?) amazing what a dog can find! 7 month old pup, 52 hours old, no blood, only sign was 2 deer hoves about 2 miles long and she nailed it! In a deer infested park, infact the snow that was there proved that their were deer crossing the path.... (now she wanted to follow those other deer but I knew those we not the one we were chasing, tracking is a team effort)
madness: kinda like boats: the best trackin dog to have is "a friend with a trackin dog" No vet bills, 2 AM wakeup, 6 am walks, house training, storing blood and parts in the 2nd freezer.... that's just off the top of my head but I love doin it

I have a bassett hound that I have used a few times and he works pretty good.
