How many members have a Lifetime Lic?
I can tell you I would not take the 4-5 deer a year I usally take if it were not for my Lifetime Lic. If I added 24$ to the 60-70$ processing fee it would almost not be worth my time unless I processed all my own. I only process about half of my deer myself.
This also makes it easier to take a fall turkey if one happens by me during the deer season.
So I guess what I am asking is how many people have a lifetime Lic and does it change your personal hunting guidelines?

Yes, I have a Lifteime License and I do kill more deer because of it.
More the hassle of going to buy another tag more than the cost. But, I would say the cost would hold some hunters back.
Before I bought my LL I would buy one tag at a time. Now all I have to do is fill out a piece of paper.
That makes "doubling up" a lot easier. I can kill two or three deer in one sitting. Before if I killed one I had to take that one home and process it, buy another tag and go back out.
I never had more than one tag in my pocket at a time.
Last time I looked at the DNR website they said something about the lifetime license holders killing almost 60% of all the deer annually. If us Lifetime License holders had to pay $24 a tag I'll bet that percentage would drop like a rock.
It's a two edged sword for the DNR. The DNR isn't making any more money off of us, but we are the ones who are actually managing the herd for them. 60% to 40% and I'd bet a lot of the 60% is does..

I bought the lifetime fishing and hunting after the price went up. It is one of the best things that I have ever bought for the outdoors. I do not know which I like more not paying the noney each time or the standing in line at wal-mart or somewhere. I do believe that the state has lossed alot of money because of it though. They haved raised fees else where to help cover the cost. This year I believe they requere a launching permit that cost $20.00 if it motorized. We found this out when we went to Linton on the spring fishing trip. All I know is that I have mine and I am thankfull of it. I know 6 other hunters and four of them have the lifetime. My cousin thought that I was pulling leg when I told him that the DNR quit selling them though.

Yes, but I'm still reasonable. I don't kill everything that walks by, I may end of up 3 deer or 4 for the season.

I've had my LL for a long time.
It only took about 4 years to pay for itself. When I bought my LL I could kill 4 bucks and 2 does. Now I can kill one buck and unlimited does.
I'm like pbr. I do kill more now as there is no hassle doing it.
Just fill out a little piece of paper and keep right on hunting.
No trip to Wally World and digging deeper in my pocket.
The very best investment I ever made.

Best investment I have ever made. Wish I would of bought the LL fishing and trapping license also when they were available. I have had my LL hunting for I think 8 or 9 years. It took about 4 years to pay for them. I can't remember even what I paid. I think it was 525.00 when I got mine. I used a fur check from trapping to buy mine. When they first came out I think they were like 275.00$. Its just one thing you don't have to do before season to get ready, but it is easy to go online and buy licenses. I do it that way for my fishing and trapping license now. I would like to know how many LL license were sold.

I bought my comp. lifetime hunting & fishing when it was like $725. I figure it paid for itself in less than 5 years. Best money I ever spent.
Do I kill more deer because of it? I'd have to say "yes". I personally only use 2 deer per year, but I love to deer hunt and love to use harvesting does as a management tool. So, I have several people that want venison. With the lifetime license, I just keep hunting at no expense to myself and donate the meat to people who want it. I butcher everything myself, so there is no cost either.

are they still selling the life time licenses? No. I have heard that they are looking an annual version called a "sportman's license." I think several states have them in that it covers everything from soup to nuts for a year. .

I have had mine for about 6 or 7 years, I love not having to worry "do i have a tag yet?" but i have also become more selective in my hunting. I hunt almost everything I can, so as far as paying it's self off, it took alittle longer but I'm not eating a tag if I let em all walk exept for the doe in late archery or muzzy season. I like the idea of shooting the "big one" I just have to see him to shoot him!

I have the comprehensive hunting and fishing LL. As for deer hunting-I used to always buy 2 deer tags anyway-my archery tag, and a bonus anterless, any legal weapon tag, and it was 3 tags before obr.
But sure, today it`s much easier since I got the LL. In 2003, I wound up killing 4 deer, a button buck and an 8-pointer during the early archery season, a doe with my muzzleloader opening morning of gun season, then a big 10-pointer at the Turkey Run hunt. Never had a season like that before, or since, but at least I`m not carrying around a bunch of tags I might have to eat, or watching deer walk that I would have killed, but didn`t have the tags.
Just remember though-whatever I do kill-or don`t-the Lifetime Licenses weren`t cheap-and it will be many years before I recoup that $1100.00 it cost.

Got mine seven years ago. At that time I figured it would take 7 years to pay for itself. I bought my EX-wife's the next year. She left a year later so I'm still trying to pay that one off. I found that it has changed my hunting. I'm big into waterfowl now so deer seem to get the back burner when the seasons overlap. I did go five straight years of having a buck in the freezer before the start of waterfowl season. The last year it was a doe. What I have noticed as the biggest change is I don't seem to put as much time in the field. I don't feel like I'm wasting any money if I don't make a trip or two since I'm not spending money on tags every year. I've also noticed that I concentrate more on what my kids get in the woods more than myself. Again because I don't feel like I'm wasting money by not using tags every year.

I wish I had one. Didn't have the money to buy one even before the price increase, but had I known that they were going to do away with them, I probably would have gotten a credit card. ;D I'd definately consider the "sportsman" license that Woody aluded too. Even if it cost $100-150 and covered all the deer and turkey tags, it would be worth it to me just to know that I'm covered no matter what...

I have a LL for hunting and really wish I would have bought comp fishing as well. With the LL, I would take up to 3 or 4 deer a year. If I was still paying for tags, I might buy 2 a year.

My Lifetime License number is 6615, I purchased it on 04-14-1997 for $525.00. It's by far the best outdoor investment I have ever made. It was my retirement present to myself when the Star bought our jobs out in 1997.
I really struggled over buying my son a LL right before they did away with them, but I didn't. He still gets to hunt 5 more years on a youth license and I am hoping they have a annual sportsman license by the time he is 18.
If we end up with a permenant OBR, I think we will see a change in the deer license structure. I know the deer tags are a cash cow for the DNR, but the public is being bent over with the current deer tag structure and a OBR.
I would say the first few years I killed more deer than I would of if I didn't have the LL.....I was trying to get my monies worth in the first few years!
Now it really don't have an effect......my FIRST goal in deer hunting each season is to see that my son has ample opportunity to make a kill, then I worry about myself.

I have a comprehensive hunting LL , got it for $899 a few years ago , and it's been one of the most positive influences on my hunting . I don't feel the stress of deciding how many tags to buy , I'm far more relaxed when I go afield and don't score , and the flexibility it's given me is wonderful . It hasn't paid for itself quite yet , but it won't be much longer . Best money I ever spent .
