Now is the time to act. It now appears that the fate of the High Fence Shooting Preserves now lies solely in the hand s of Governor Mitch Daniels. Unfortunately it would now appear that Mr. Daniels is willing to consent to the request of the 6 existing High Fence operators and allow them to continue operating for 10 to 20 more years. Obviously if they are allowed to continue operating for that length of time they will then have a whole new administration to work with and will find a new way not only to continue to operate but expand. A clear explanation as to why such a deal is being considered has yet to be known. One can only assume it involves nothing more than backroom politics and money!
Several Sportsmen Organizations in our State have voiced their opinion concerning this issue and now it is time for us as a united group hunters and lovers of the outdoors to make a stand and voice our opinions on what the Governor is proposing to do.
Frankly I don’t care if you support one organization or hate another one. I don’t care if you are Anti-crossbow, Pro OBR, Anti-Rifle. I don’t care if you hate IDHA or if you love the NRA. This kind of debate can rage on for years to come. Nothing wrong with that. For now, all those differences of opinions need to be set aside. It is now time for all sportsmen and women that truly care about this issue to work together. If you stand on the sidelines and do nothing, there is a very real chance in the not to distant future that all the other issues we bicker about will be irrelevant.
What will you say some Sunday morning when your paper headlines read: “CWD found in Indiana. DNR purposes mass eradication zones!” Outside of the scientific reason we should be against such operations, we have a moral obligation to hold our sport to the highest of ethical standards. The very future of our sport depends on it.
I started this thread for one reason. I am calling on ALL sportsmen who care to write, call, e-mail the Governor. Tell him your thoughts and opinions on this issue. You can bet the other side is doing it! Write a letter to the editor and express your disappointment and outrage over the current status of this issue. Do your PART NOW, TIME IS SHORT! If you do nothing then please don’t complain later. Be sure to remind the Governor that not only do sportsmen hunt, we VOTE as well.
There is a thread started over at H.H. concerning this issue. I know some of you don’t care much for that site. I would encourage you to go over there and read the thread anyway. As I stated earlier it is time to set aside everything else and focus on the problem at hand.
