Just seen the pic again (another site)....man, that was an awsome deer.
Anyone heard anything on it lately?
Why would someone trade a truck and 4 wheeler....then never show the deer?
Just a real strange situation!

Why would he trade it? Because of the beating he took on the Indiana web sites and various other web sites. Many called the guy a cheat, poacher, etc. Many cried foul over the way it was checked in. Many cried foul because how could he be so ignorant to not know what he had in that deer. Many cried foul because he went into hiding. Maybe a truck and ATV were what he always wanted and he truly did not value such an amazing animal. There were many reasons why the kid would trade it off. In my mind, the beating alone that this poor guy took over the internet alone would make me consider burring it in a deep hole never to be seen again. I don't know the guy, I've never seen the deer beyond the one picture we've all seen. I really could care less about it. But I like many followed every bit of breaking "news" about this animal. IMO there are many on this site and the other Indiana sites should hide their heads in shame over the beating this kid got based on rumors. Maybe it was legit, maybe it wasn't. We may never know. I know I would not have traded it off. I would not have stood for the abuse either. I'd have been out there telling those crying foul to get bent. Personally, I think the entire thing was disgusting.

Why would someone trade a truck and 4 wheeler....then never show the deer? I was refering to the fella that gave up the truck and 4 wheeler, not the kid that shot the deer.

My bad, then.
Maybe the guy just really wanted a deer like that.

Anytime a "potential world record buck" post is made the rumors will fly. You are correct in that most, if not all are unfounded.
Since we are in the computer age and rumors can fly around the world twice before the truth gets off the ground there can be a problem.
But with that said - I'm not even sure that the hunter even has a computer, has internet access, or visits any which one of the NUMEROUS sites that talked about this deer. It even made the Boone and Crockett "trophy watch".
Now, in my opinuion it was not about hunting web sites and a few posts that questioned how the deer might have been taken and how the check in was handled, but the constant badgering by the press, the outdoor writers, equipment manufacturers, curious hunters wanting to get a peek, hunting organizations, record keeping organizations, etc , etc ,etc that made him go underground with the buck.
It did not take long for the family to get an unlisted phone number.
IOW - people, manufactureres and organizations that wanted to use HIS buck for THEIR benefit.
I would almost bet he didn't trade it off but said he did just to get rid of the vultures circling his home.
Not everyone is interested in seeing his name in a book and making money off of a deer that they just happened to kill. Some people want their privacy more than fame and fortune.
The buck will resurface someday.... maybe. If not, then the hunter will always have the memories of that day and hopefully he can forget about the circling vultures.

"Vultures"?
I'd say more like a plague of locusts.
Vultures wait until the death.
These " I want in on the success" idiots were after blood from the first smell.
I'd send them all packing when they showed up on my doorstep and called me all hours of the day and night too.

Yep, thats the deer!
Still can't figure out why someone would give a truck and 4 wheeler for that deer and then not show it to anyone.
I also find it hard to beleive that someone knocking on your door, offering you cold hard cash would be so bothersome....I mean if he did trade the deer off (truck and ATV), then that means that he did have a price.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought that it was some news on this deer. I figured it would have surfaced by now. What a strange mystery this is.

I would just like to see an official score on this buck. Not your call , someone else shot it and it's his business and his alone if he wants it scored . Not according to popular rumor Kevin..... The fella that shot it sold (traded) it! So it's the BUYERS business now (IF rumor is true)

Sell for an ATV and Truck I wouldn't due. I guess some people are able to handle the pressure differently and unfortunately this family wasn't able to handle it.

I have it from a good source that chicobrownbear has possession of the deer but is holding out for a new truck, new ATV and 2 fudgesickles.

You are misinformed Hoyt, it was 2 CASES of Fudgesickels, and a 6 pack of Heineken! Which would explain his slurring when I talked to him on the phone. There was a lot of slurping too but didn't want to ask the question as I was afraid of the answer. ;D

It was a box of bomb pops and a case of oatmeal stout.
