It became very apparent a few years ago just how much the media plays a part when they started calling the presidential election WAAAAAY before people out west were done voting.... Iowa, by state law, has to hold their caucas before any other state has their primaries. I did see in the paper a few weeks back where Mitch was trying to come up with a plan to "piggyback" Indiana with either Iowa or New Hampshire and we would have some sort of voting the same day that they did....

Well since the concesis is I am incorrect then I shall say okay I have broad shoulders and accept that. Although in the 42+ years I have been able to vote I am pretty sure that I have been handed single party ballots.

During the primary you ARE handed single primary ballots. You have to declare a party. No way they can do that in the general election which is by secret ballot. That said they know from the rolls which party you voted for in the primary so they suspect they know your party (which in my case would by incorrect).
You're correct in the way the primary is held in Indiana. Not sure what else you think you are incorrect about.

Jack, Thanks. Primary's are what I was talking about since this discussion is/was about primary's. The General election is a totally different kettle of fish And I believe that I have heard the saying that the voters crossed party lines as to whom they supported in the Presidential part of that election. I also thought that Indiana is/was considered as primarily a Democrat state (more voters registered a Democrats than Republicans), but that could have changed over the years and I have not really paid attention as to how the media views this state. But then again I have stated what I think of the media befor.

Not sure Indiana has ever been considered a Democratic state for the presidency. We have been the first state in the country the last 5-8 elections to be declared as a Republican victory.
