Actionpoint, as I said in my intial post, I always get over for emergency vehicles, as long as it is safe. I also pointed out that I like and appreciate emergency responders.
I simply believe we need to draw the line at some point for this kind of thing. We have all been forced over in bad traffic to get over for an ambulance or a cop. Many of us have also seen people in emergency vehicles turn thier lights on to get through traffic only to shut them off when they pull into a resturant. Now anyone with a dashboard light can do the same sort of thing? It's just like any other power in life; tempting to abuse and dangerous in the wrong hands.
I'd also feel better about it if I didn't know a huge percentage of these calls are responding to fender benders or other silly calls where folks should not have bothered emergency services.
No matter the emergency, nothing justifies driving like dirty car man. What good is getting to the scene early if you risk more likes in the process?
