Who you calling a dumb-butt? My guess - People are getting older and as we age we slow down, even in the fast lane.

I typically maintain at 5 miles per hour over the speed limit in the left lane on the interstates, and I maintain at 5-10 miles per hour over the speed limit no matter what lane I'm in on 465 in Indy where it's only 55...and even THAT is too slow for some people!! But your point is well taken about people going at or under the speed limit and SITTING in the left (fast) lane with no clue to get into the right and get out of people's ways...

Sorry, but the way I see it, NO ONE, should be staying in the left lane when there is no other vehicles around them and I include cops in this category. I have passed many a cop in the right lane when they are doing right at or a little under the speed limit in the left lane. Just scoot over and get out of peoples way. I know I have a little bit of a lead foot, but I get out of the left lane whenever some one needs by or whenever there is no cars close by in the right lane. I sometimes pull right up behind slow cars in the left lane and start honking and flashing my lights just to get them to scoot over and get the point.

I do this too (get in the right if someone's coming up behind me) just as a courtesy to other drivers...but I'm sorry, I think it's kind of rude to honk and flash your lights behind someone who is going too slow for you in the left lane...just calm down and pass them in another lane!

They should realize that the lane they are in is the fast (passing) lane and they should get out of others way. It really bugs me when I do pass them in the right lane and then they scoot over to the right lane when I go past them.

That is the crux of the problem. The cellphone yakers, slowpokes, & bluehairs would not be an issue if there "was" room to go around in another lane.

When i went to drivers training way back in the 60's we were taught to use the left lave to pass only and then move back into the right lane. What ever happened to that? I see people driving the left lane all the time and slowing down traffic.
I once passed a state trooper who was doing 55 on a 4 lane hi-way in a 55 zone. He had a string of traffic backed up behind him. He stopped me a mile or so after i passed him and gave me a warning for doing 60 in a 55. He said to me what good is it for me to run a block if you are going to pass me. I said its 6PM and this is use to be a 65 MPH speed zone and a major route to and from Ft Wayne so why would you want to run a block and cause a back-up behind you? He never answered and gave me the warning. h.h.

I go up 69 many times a year. I hate it when a semi pulls in the left lane in front of me and tries to pass another truck, then he can't get around for miles.

What HH said.. It is supposd to eb a pssing lane and not a "fast lane".
Oh, it pains me to no end to get behind a semi passing another semi going uphill at 45 MPH and it is doing 1/4 a mile faster than the one being passed.
THEN when theY top the hill the slower one starts gaining speed and the one doing the passing drops in behind the other.
ARGGGHHH!

So, just how fast do you guys think the speed limits should be? Or should we just eliminate them and go Autobahn style?
As long as we HAVE a legal posted limit, I think anyone going that speed is entitled to run in whichever lane they so choose.
By what logic are they expected to choose another lane to allow faster progress for those who are breaking the law, using up more than they should be in fuel, and increasing all our insurance rates?
Now if they're out in the left lane doing LESS than the posted limit, I agree fully that they should get over where they belong. However, anyone doing the limit or above is doing all that's required of them to use that lane, no matter how long the line of leadfoot drivers who trail behind. If you really think that's too slow, you should be in touch with your state representatives and senators to try to get the limits raised.

My favorite thing is when you're going to get in the left lane to pass someone and the jackass you're getting ready to pass speeds up to keep up with you as you're trying to pass them. Hello dumbass!!! I'm trying to PASS you NOT race you!! The other thing I cannot stand is 90% of the morons that drive on 37 Southbound to Bloomington. If you're going to get that close let me get a tow rope and hook ya on to my bumper. Freakin' morons!!

Sounds like a lot of pent-up road rage being vented on this thread. I resent everything you all have been saying about me.

I agree that you should not drive UNDER the speed limit in the left lane, and the argument can be made for going with the flow of traffic, say if it is only 10-15 mph over. However, the lane exists to pass slow vehicles in the right lane. IT DOES NOT EXIST SO THAT WE CAN GO AS FAST AS WE WANT. I notice that if I need to be in the left lane, some idiot invariably tailgates me no matter how fast I' m going. Some folks would drive 100 in town if it was legal.

FYI Pizza hut delivery guy in Fort Wayne today. That little stick on the left side of your steering wheel is your turn signal.
