I had to go into the East side Evansville Walmart this morning and they had remodeled the place.
I went looking for the sporting goods department to see if they had any lever guns. When I found it there were no guns anywhere. I finally got ahold of a clerk and asked him where the guns were at and he said," We will no longer carry guns at this store."
WHAT? In gun happy and hunting crazy Southern Indiana? I asked him why and he said," New corporate policy. If they sold a gun to someone and they killed someone else Walmart could be sued."
Now, I didn't want to argue with a clerk as that would go no where. But the corporate headquarters will get a piece of my mind and no more of my dollars.
I suggest that you all do the same...
Thanks,
WW

Yep,I have found that their sporting goods department getting worse every year.I was there yesterday just browsing at the turkey hunting stuff, they had it piled in with baseball and other stuff, nothing like it use to be..I think I would be better off just to make a road trip south to Bass Pro(maybe an hour's drive from here)We only have one gun dealer in town now,and he's the highest guy around..

Had about the same reaction when I saw that they had removed the guns at Martinsville. Left the store thinking I'd just not come back. By the time I got home, though, I had decided that maybe it's not such a bad thing after all.
There are a lot of small retailers out there trying to make a living selling guns, and WalMart's move will surely make them healthier. It would have been good to have the world's largest retailer "on our team" when it comes to legislation, but if this move keeps several hundred small retailers going across the country, we may be just as well off in the long run.
MC Sports, Dick's, and a dozen little gun shops and tackle stores in the area are probably smiling.
I had never bought a gun there, anyway, but I had been looking at a new shotgun in their case for a while. Now I'll probably have to pay a few dollars more for it somewhere else. Those dollars, and the ones I'll spend for some ammo and targets to pattern the new shooter, will be spent elsewhere, as I'll not likely drive across town again to save a few cents on the peripherals that WallyWorld will still have available.
Reckon I'll still get groceries there, and spend the savings at a real gun shop.

The one in my rural home area still has them and no plans to discontinue selling them, so does the WM I patronize in very urban Clarksville, and there's a brand new BPS right down the street from it. Sounds like somebody's clerk doesn't know beans, try asking the store manager if you want the real story.

Re-Check it and see if they got rid of their pet fish area. we have capped water lines at several Wal-Marts in the area, prior to the remodle. They are getting away fron several items, not just guns.

They pulled the guns here when Walmart built the new super-center. Walmarts hunting selection gets less and less each year. I talked to one of the sporting goods guys at the Marion Walmart and he told me eventually there would only be two stores in the state that will still handle guns, one in Indy and Marion was the other.
Walmart is catering to urban living and hunting isn't a part of the urban dream of 10 acres with a pond and a horse. h.h.

Noblesville store still had them as of a couple of weeks ago, but except for ammo, I've about stopped looking for anything hunting related there, as they've thinned out there inventory so much... only a few more minutes drive to Gander in Castleton...
I think Russ is on target... other retailers will pick up the business, and if Wal-Mart wants to lose money from sportsmen, so be it...

The Wal-Mart in Franklin just took them off the shelves about a month or so ago as well. The clerk in sporting goods told me the managers of the store were anti-gun and they were all for getting the guns out of there. I had bought two guns from Wal-Mart, one in Evansville and one in Franklin. I guess no more. Oh well, like has already been said, there are little ma and pa stores smiling ear to ear about this one.

Well it's just business and hunting is about much more than guns. Being able to afford it is also an issue. Never bought a gun there anyways. Did just buy a whole slue of cem heaters for 6 bits a package and did get some thunderheads for a buck and a half for 3. When I can no longer find a deal there I'll stop going.

How many can "honestly" say that they never go to Wal-Mart because of what they have done to the sporting goods such as guns? ...I can....It's one place that I think sells a lot of junk items from foreign countries..by American made and you'll be happy that you did.As far as their groceries..shop Kroger or some other store..you might pay a little more but it's worth every penny of it!!!!!!!!

Madison and Scottsburg aren't going to sell guns anymore either I think as of April 13th or something. Seymour and the old Columbus are though. I've got a 1894CB in 44 at the Seymour store, but I will be changing jobs next month. Always said I'd never work for them if they didn't sell guns, even though we don't not sell them yet, I can see it on the wall. Don't get me wrong though, they've been good to me since I've worked there, but I stand by my word. Goodbye retail and hello woodworking!

Only thing Wal Mart is good for, is a place to cruise, if you dig checking out fat women in stretch pants.

I stopped shopping at Walmart several years ago. I have seen nothing to date to suggest I made a mistake, or misjudged them in any way. That company used the phrase 'PROUDLY MADE IN AMERICA' to build itself. Now look at it.

The Greenfield store finally ran out and sold there last gun. They are also doing away with selling fabric, making all the blue hairs in the county upset. There was actually a story in the local paper about them not selling fabric anymore.

I hate going in their with my wife....i have a hard time explaining to my wife why i'm wearing dark sunglasses inside the store ;D Hey Woody our West side store still has plenty of guns, ammo and camo. And some nice eye candy from about 5pm on!

I guess the remodeling of the east side store was a good opportunty for them to move the gun cases out. I'll bet the west side store wont be far behind. They could have a riot on their hands if the take them out of the Boonville store. All I can say is COME ON GANDER MOUNTAIN...
